Audemars Piguet
CODE 11.59
full CGI lookdev
Welcome to the additional content of the Audemars Piguet code 11.59 media project.

Once again, I've been blessed to work with the wonderfull folks over at I-réel studio. Check their website at https://www.i-reel.fr
The mission was to create fully CGI 360's and loopable medias for the launch of the Audemars Piguet CODE 11.59 new collection at the SIHH 2019, and simultaneously online : https://www.audemarspiguet.com

My work was essentially taking care of the rendering of the 6 watches, and some modeling. In addition to the leather strap, some elements, like the bezel, crown, some screws, or push buttons, have been remodelled from .STEP file to polymodeling for the hand polished feel, and for mapping issues. All texturing / shading / lighting / rendering / compositing by me. All camera work, .STEP processing, watch/mouvements animation, editing, final grading by I-réel studio.
On this page you will find early stages of the project, work in progress pictures, high rez pictures from any angle and light situations to prooftest shaders, mainly on the Chronographe given it was the first watch of the project and the main focus of the collection. Knowing the timeframe, the importance, and the scope of the project, I basically created new very high resolution shaders that could withstand macros without any issues, new render techniques to accommodate the double curved sapphir glass that could basically not be rendered on another pass, and new compositing techniques to overcome grading the dial with a sapphir on top of it.

Keep in mind, the vast majority of these renders are lookdev, not graded nor retouched with photoshop, with some occasionnal errors that do not make it to the final footages. The occasional tampering will be indicated.

Very first brushed shader test

CODE 11.59 A.P. Chronographe, first presentation renders.
This was mainly to assess the feasability of the brushed case and double curved sapphir glass with raytraced depth of field effect, and to compare with actual footage of the Chronographe. The strap is a mix of displacement / normal mapping, generated from hi-rez photos. Rose gold not yet graded.

Some mouvement renders. New Geneva stripes and perlage shaders have been created for 11.59. Occlusion has been added for realism.

SWIPING LIGHTS TESTS
Early lighting test before cameras were set and client approved. The whole idea was to create a light movement that could loop back and forth to underline the watch features.
And some early pre-prod glitches.

A few production videos.

Watches 360's were only viewable at SIHH.

BONUS RENDERS
All these renders are edited, mainly for grading. All shaders final. The Quantième Perpétuelle renders are for training purpose, to set a mood, and are rendered in 8500 pix and 12500 pix respectively. This enable some pretty interesting blowups to look closely at the intricacy of the finishings.

The mouvements renders are extracts from the AP website three sixties, but in much higher resolutions (8500 pix) and lightly retouched to better suit the camera angle.
